Universalist Quote of the Day #123

“Not Universal Salvation (which is but a Result) but God’s INFINITE LOVE is the grand central idea, the ground truth of Universalism.  When its legitimate Effect, its inevitable Consequence is denied, men will doubt as to the existence of the truth itself.

Universalism should be taught now not merely to overthrow the dogma of endless misery or suffering, but that men may wholly and verily believe in God, and that believing he is good be good themselves; that they may understand what salvation is, and place themselves in the way to obtain it.”

–A layman, “A Layman, and Rev. H. Ballou,” The Gospel Teacher and Universalist Miscellany (July 1849): 122
