Universalist Quote of the Day #253

“God’s design for his intelligent creatures is that they shall come into voluntary harmony with himself.  The law or method of God’s work and rule is adapted to this great end.  The Psalmist truly says, ‘The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul.”  It works in the being of every man for this end.  It never ceases to work thus till this end is attained.  The law of God is so adapted to man’s agency as to succeed in leading it to a pure and divine exercise; and so neither is God’s design to save all thwarted, nor man’s agency violated.  Both are maintained while man is brought to will according to God’s will, and to delight in union with God as the great end of his being and as the highest happiness of which his nature is susceptible.”
